UPDATED PARKING MAP

There will be a mandatory pre-race meeting at 8:45 a.m.  The transition area will close at this time so that all athletes are available to attend the pre-race meeting.   Plan to arrive early enough to allow your child enough time to set up his/her transition area before the start of the pre-race meeting.

The athlete's age on the day of the race determines the age group in which the athlete will compete. For example, if you will be 12 on June 10th, 2017, you will compete as a 12 year old. All participants in the 2017 Tri2BeatMS’ Triathlon must meet the age requirements disclosed in the official entry form and rules.
Only registered participants and triathlon volunteers are allowed in the marked, flagged, coned, or chalked areas once the race begins.  Parents will be allowed in transition area before and after the race in order to help their child set up. Once the race begins, parents will not be allowed in the transition area.  Volunteers will be available to assist children who need help finding their spot, putting their dry shoes on their wet feet, etc.
Space is limited inside the transition area. Please use as little space as necessary when setting up your bike and clothing / gear. Volunteers reserve the right to move clothing / gear in order to help create spots for other competitors should the need arise.
No one will be allowed into the transition area to pick up his or her things until the last competitor is off of the bike and on the run course. Please be prepared for this, as we will not make exceptions. This is important for the safety of all competitors, and it will also ensure all competitors are allowed a congestion- free transition area. Thank you for your understanding in this matter.

One race number will be provided to participants in their race packets. The race number needs to be worn and fully visible during the bike and run portions of the race. The race number is not to be worn during the swim. Do not tear off the tab on the number.
Neither race numbers nor clothing / gear (such as shirts, shoes, or towels) is allowed in the pool area. Clothing / gear is to be kept in the transition area.  Your bicycle, along with your clothing / gear, must be placed in the transition area prior to the start of the race. All materials will be placed in an area according to your child's age-group (color-coded).

The following rules must be complied with during the swim portion of the Tri-City Kids’ Triathlon:
  • Absolutely no running on the pool deck. Thereafter, running / walking to and through the transition area is the athlete’s choice.
  • Swimmers must wear a bathing suit while in the pool.
  • Race numbers are not allowed in the pool.
  • Aqua socks are not allowed.
  • Goggles may be worn but are not required.
Swim aids such as kickboards or flotation devices are allowed. However, athletes using swim aids will not be eligible for podium awards (i.e., 1st, 2nd, 3rd place in their age group). All athletes will be awarded a participation medal. Athletes must provide their own swim aids.

  • No performance enhancing devices such as fins will be allowed.
  • Swimmers may not pull along lane lines and/or push off the bottom.
  • Any swim stroke may be used.
Competitors may not use personal headphones and / or radios during any portion of the Tri2BeatMS Triathlon.

Bicycle Safety:
By participating in the 2017 Tri2BeatMS Triathlon, each participant and his / her parent or legal guardian represents and warrants that the bicycle he / she will use in the triathlon is in fact road-worthy and in safe operating condition; that the bicycle poses no threat to the safety of its operator or any other participant due to its state of repair, maintenance or mechanical condition. The parent / guardian's signature on the participant's entry form is an acknowledgement of and agreement to this requirement. Each participant and his / her parent or legal guardian acknowledges and understands that Tri2BeatMS’ Triathlon’s decision to accept the participant’s request to enter the triathlon is based upon this representation. No training wheels will be allowed.
Participants must ride in a safe manner at all times. Safe riding includes, but is not limited to:
  • Riding in a straight line without veering or swerving unnecessarily or blocking the progress of other participants.
  • Keeping to the right side of the cycling lane except to pass or when safety requires otherwise.
  • Keeping a safe distance between you and the cyclist in front of you and passing as soon as possible if you move closer.
  • Walk their bikes through the transition area.
  • Athletes may not ride their bikes in the transition area.
  • Bike helmets must be worn and buckled during the bike portion of the event, including when walking the bike through the transition area.
  • Helmets must comply with either CPSC, SNELL or ANSI standards as indicated by a label on the inside of the helmet. Parents / guardians must assure that the helmet fit is proper for the athlete.
Shoes must be worn during the bike and the run portions of the race. Shoes must be tied or fastened prior to mounting the bicycle and must remain laced until the racer dismounts their bike at the end of the ride. Shoes must be properly tied or fastened during the run.
Athletes who are using bikes that have aero-bars (typically found on triathlon bikes) are not allowed to ride in the aero position during this event for safety reasons.
If, in the judgment of the Tri2BeatMS’ Triathlon event staff, a participant is unable or unwilling to ride or control his / her bike in a safe manner, the participant may be disqualified from the event and instructed to leave the bicycle course.
No outside assistance of any kind is allowed. This includes, but is not limited to: pacing or any assistance with equipment.  Assistance by Tri2BeatMS’ officials, staff, or volunteers will be rendered if deemed appropriate.  (Please note that racers with disabilities will be allowed support during the event as needed with pre-approval of the race director).
Any discourteous or unsportsmanlike actions by participants or parents toward other participants, parents, volunteers, or race officials will be grounds for disqualification. Failure to comply with the above stated rules and / or any request of a race official may result in a disqualification.

Weather Policy:

The safety of our athletes and volunteers is our primary concern. In the event of inclement weather, every attempt will be made to preserve the safety of everyone involved, and complete the race as scheduled.
In the event of:

Lightning: the event will be postponed by 30 minutes. If lightning is closer than 6 miles away at 9:00 AM, then the race will be postponed by 30 minutes. Families should wait in their cars until 9:30. If the lightning continues to be within 6 miles at 9:30 AM, the race will be cancelled.

Rain: the event will NOT be cancelled due to rain alone. If race officials determine that the bike portion of the race will be unsafe due to wet roads, the race will be changed to a swim-run duathlon. Athletes will be informed of such a change via announcements on race day.

Tornado warning: The race will be cancelled in the event of a tornado warning.

**ENTRY FEES WILL NOT BE REFUNDED IN THE EVENT OF CANCELLATION.

All Tri2BeatMS’ Triathlon rules are subject to interpretation by event officials, whose decision will be final.
